“Soft lifting” is a form of software piracy wherein a single licensed copy is installed on multiple machines. It is very common in smaller businesses and specific business environments, such as mobile sales forces. The insured might, for example, purchase a single user license copy and then install the software on multiple laptops. When the laptops are stolen, the insured attempt to “upgrade” by having the insurer pay for the cost of end user licenses for all the replaced systems.
